There are more fragrances around to day than there have ever been before. Some good, some bad, some old, some new. Perfume fragrances are sourced from every continent on earth but the biggest markets tend to be in the west.The more image conscious nature and higher levels or disposable income have meant that sales have mainly been attributed to the west, although change is coming.The perfume domain in the Arab States however is an area that is on the up and this has caught the eye of many big players in the industry
The whole market is moving well currently, with a predicted combined worth of around billion by the year 2012. around 0m of this is made up by the Arabian Peninsula, but the difference is that their growth rate is exceptionally higher. For example, total sales last year were up around 15 percent.
The impressive step up in the market, which has also been seen in the rest of the Middle East and Asia-Pacific has been attributed largely to the rise in money and change in society in all areas. The Arab States have also been practitioners of using fragrances. In Saudi Arabia for example, around 85% of women use scents every day. However, the types of fragrance have changed, with more high market women’s perfume names replacing the more traditional products. On top of this, male fragrances have seen a jump in sales recently and the variety of scents that men purchase is also on the up.
The upward surge in the market has seen a number of large shows being organised and some strong names in the field competing for a slice of the pie. The next event is due to be Beautyworld Middle East, which is the 3rd largest international beauty event of its kind. This year there are an amazing 870 exhibitors, displaying around 1,600 brands – an increase of 18% on last year.
